Cleaning and care
We make our furniture using natural materials, resulting in unique surface textures and appearances. In particular, linoleum derives from the renewable raw materials; linseed oil, resin, wood, limestone flour and pigment. The material has a special quality that makes it exceptional in terms of feel, appearance and performance. The following properties are generally considered typical for the product and do not constitute a defect:
- Drying chamber film: A yellowish film (the so-called ‘drying chamber film’) may appear on linoleum. This phenomenon is particularly visible on light coloured linoleum. When the material is exposed to natural light, this film disappears (speed dependent on the light intensity) and the product takes back its original colour. This natural process can recur when the material (or a portion of it) is covered.
- Minor colour deviations can occur on the surface of linoleum due to the unique production process involved. These can include; small beige stains (due to the possible accumulation of wood flour), pigment marks (visible as a longitudinal stripe) and material inclusions (visible particles of up to 2 mm that enter the linoleum during the making process).
Over time, your linoleum or wood veneer surface will age gracefully, acquiring a naturally rich and characterful patina that makes each piece unique.
To further extend the life of your Faust furniture, follow our simple maintenance recommendations. For further queries or advice, please contact us directly.
- For daily linoleum and wood veneer cleaning, wipe the furniture with a clean cloth.
- If deeper cleaning is required, including the removal of grease, oil-based dirt, or stains, dampen a clean cloth with water and wipe the surface.
- If that proves insufficient, spray a mild detergent such as our own Cleaning Solution onto the surface and wait a few moments before wiping with a clean microfibre cloth until completely dry.
- For gentle cleaning and an effective refreshing of your furniture’s linoleum or wood veneer surface, apply the recommended Revitalising Oil occasionally and as needed.
- Refrain from using cleaning solutions that contain solvents, such as white spirits, acetone or nail polish remover, as these can damage the surface.
- When placing pots or vases made of terracotta, clay or metal on your linoleum surface, use saucers or coasters to protect the furniture from potential discolouration.
- Linoleum is an extremely tough material and can even tolerate spillages of acidic foods and beverages such as coffee and lemon juice. However, try not to let acidic liquids sit on the linoleum surface for extended periods as this may produce lasting marks.
- Avoid contact with adhesive substances such as superglue.
- Exercise caution when using Post-it notes or coloured paper. When wet, these can cause permanent marks on furniture surfaces.
- We recommend patch-testing disinfectants on a linoleum sample or a hidden area before application.
- Faust furniture is intended for indoor use only and should not be used outdoors.
